KANAGAWA (TR) – An elderly man was arrested on Saturday after he called police to report that he murdered his wife.

Kanagawa Prefectural Police arrested Sane Takizawa, 81, on suspicion of murder for allegedly murdering his wife by strangling her in their residence in Sakae Ward, Yokohama, the Sankei Shimbun reports (June 11).

Takizawa, who lives alone with his wife in her 70s, told police they “had a fight before I killed her.”

Police said they responded to Takizawa’s phone call in the morning and found a woman lying on her back. Officers confirmed the woman was dead at the scene.

Authorities believe Takizawa strangled her at around 11 p.m. on Friday.

An investigation is under way to identify the body and examine the couple’s history.
