KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police on Thursday announced the bust of a management company for an illegal online casino, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 10).

Police took Takuya Sakamoto, a 39-year-old officer at Peace One, and four other employees into custody for allegedly operating the gambling site Dream Casino.

Between the fall of 2012 and this past March, revenue from the site, which has about 9,500 members, has totaled 1.926 billion yen.

Sakamoto and two other employees deny the charges, saying that they do not recognize the site as offering gambling. The two other suspects have admitted to the charges.

The server for the Japanese site is located in the U.K. However, police deemed the essential operation of the site to be at Peace One, which is located in tenant building in Osaka’s Tennoji Ward.

The bust is the first time that police in Japan have targeted the management company of an online casino operating illegally.
