AICHI (TR) – A young woman stood at the edge of the roof of a seven-floor parking garage in Nagoya on Thursday for over two hours before she was talked down from attempting suicide.

Aichi Prefectural Police received multiple emergency calls saying a young woman was trying to jump off from the top of a seven-floor parking garage fronting the Loft department store at around 6 p.m. in the downtown district of Sakae, the Asahi Shimbun reports (June 9).

The woman was convinced to step away by a male acquaintance and police officers after about two and a half hours.

A large crowd gathered to watch from a perimeter that was set up with a radius of about 30 meters.

Sakae is dotted with several high-rise buildings, department stores and restaurants.
