TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating what is believed to have been an attempted murder-suicide after the body of a woman was found inside a room of a love hotel in the Ikebukuro area of Toshima Ward, reports Fuji News Network (June 9).

On Wednesday evening, officers from the Ikebukuro Police Station found the woman, believed to be in her 40s, lying face-up on a bed with stab wounds to two locations on her chest. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.

Police also found a man lying near the woman. He was conscious and also had stab wounds to his chest. A knife with a 15-centimeter blade was discovered near him, according to Nikkan Sports (June 9).

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was also transported to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Police suspect that the man killed the woman with the knife before attempting to take his own life.

The couple checked into the room at 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. A hotel staff member called police at approximately 6:20 p.m. the following day after entering the room and finding the woman’s body.
