CHIBA (TR) – The top boss of the Yamaguchi-gumi, which is Japan’s largest organized crime group, on Sunday visited a commemoration ceremony for another criminal syndicate in Ichihara City, reports Fuji News Network (June 6).
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Shinobu Tsukasa, 73, attended a ceremony for the changing of the head of the Soai-kai, a gang based in the Ichihara area.
Prior to his arrival in Chiba Prefecture, Tsuskasa was followed by news crews as he passed through Tokyo. It was the Godfather’s first time to be filmed in the capital since his release from prison in 2011.
With the Yamaguchi-gumi currently embroiled in a dispute with its newly formed rival, the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, law enforcement believes that Tsukasa attended the ceremony as a part of an effort to maintain friendly relations with the Soai-kai.
Due to safety concerns, about a dozen police officers accompanied Tsukasa on his visit.
