OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police early Wednesday  initiated a crackdown on specialty hostess clubs in Kita Ward for licensing violations, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 1).

At approximately 1:25 a.m., officers raided Lien, a so-called “girl’s bar” located in the Doyamacho area, and arrested manager Ryoichi Toyama, 27, for providing customers with entertainment without a proper license under the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.

A girl’s bar is licensed as a drinking establishment but offers services nearly equivalent to that of an adult-entertainment club.

At the time of the raid, a female employee was allegedly providing entertainment to three male customers.

Toyama denies the charges, telling police that while he knew the girls were serving customers he had no knowledge of them “providing entertainment.”

Police raided another girl’s bar in the area on the same charges. The sweep resulted in a total of six arrests.
