CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have busted a health foods company in Ichikawa City for the unauthorized sale of erectile dysfunction remedy drugs, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 27).

Police have accused Takanori Mikami, the 63-year-old former representative director of Win Road, former president Hisashi Ando, 51, and three other male and female employees of the sale of drugs that were not authorized under the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Act.

The company imported the drugs from Korea and inserted them into bottles, labeled with names such as Yellow Cab.

Over a five-year period ending in September of last year, the company sold roughly 840,000 pills via mail order to 27,500 customers with sales totaling 850 million yen. The average age of the customers, including a Tokyo man who purchased 10 pills for 8,720 yen in February of last year, was 63.5.

The matter came to light after a former employee of Win Road consulted with the Chiba Nishi Police Station regarding the company. Police then searched the company’s office and discovered 1,884 illegal pills.
