5 University of Tokyo students arrested for indecent assault

5 male student from the University of Tokyo have been apprehended in the indecent assault of a woman at an apartment

TOKYO (TR) – Police arrested four male university students in their 20s on Thursday for suspected indecent assault of a female university student in an apartment room.

Officers from the Sugamo Police Station arrested four male University of Tokyo students aged 22-24 on suspicion of indecent assault of a female university student in an apartment in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, on May 11, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 19).

Police said three of the four suspects arrested on Thursday denied the charges. One suspect said he had “no malicious intent and no planning was involved, but if this is a crime then I’ll have to accept that.”

Authorities previously arrested another male University of Tokyo student related to the case on May 11. The suspect admitted to the allegations after initially denying them.

An ongoing investigation is looking into the victim’s history with one of the men, who she said was an acquaintance.

The arrested suspects were gathered in one of their apartment rooms on May 11 sometime past midnight, where they are suspected of molesting the victim’s breasts and buttocks after forcing her to strip.

Sugamo police responded to an emergency call made by the woman after she fled from the apartment.

The men, the victim and another female university student were consuming alcohol at an establishment near JR Ikebukuro Station, and moved to the apartment where they continued drinking.
