TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested the president of a music company who is believed to have defrauded a number of persons in an overseas investment scam, reports TV Asahi (May 18).

In February of 2014, Fumihito Komachi, the 56-year-old head of Apollo Music, allegedly obtained three million yen from a female acquaintance, aged in her 30s, after falsely claiming that the funds would be deposited in a “secretive overseas bank account” for which he could gain access.

According to police, the money was spent on personal entertainment.

Komachi, who has been charged with fraud, denies the charges.

The suspect had told the woman that she would be able to receive 300,000 yen in return for the investment. The woman contacted police when she became suspicious about that payment, according to the Sankei Shimbun (May 18).

Police suspect that Komachi pulled a similar ruse on a number of other persons.
