KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police are investigating an incident in which a 66-year-old woman died after her vehicle was struck by an Odakyu Electric Railway express train in Kawasaki City on Sunday, reports TBS News (May 16).

At just before 10:00 pm., the woman’s vehicle was struck by a Romance Car train on the Odawara Line at a crossing gate near Shin-Yurigaoka Station in Asao Ward after it stopped on the tracks. The train dragged the vehicle approximately 100 meters after impact.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.

There were no injuries to the approximately 100 passengers on the train.

Police are treating the case as a suicide.  A note found inside the vehicle, presumably written by the woman, offered thanks to her family, according to Fuji News Network (May 16).

Train operations were disrupted for about four hours between Shin-Yurigaoka and Machida stations, impacting about 20,000 passengers.
