KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a Tokyo civic employee for engaging in a high-speed race involving multiple cars that ended in a collision and one fatality, reports the Asahi Shimbun (May 12).
On October 25 at around 4:00 a.m., Yuichiro Hosoya, a 29-year-old employee in the town of Mizuho, Noriyasu Teshigawara, a 44-year-old employee at a precious metals company, and two other drivers allegedly engaged in a race along the Bayshore Route of the Shuto Expressway that reached speeds exceeding 200 kilometers per hour.
Hosoya, who has been charged with violating the Road Traffic Act regarding dangerous operation, admits to the allegations. Teshigawara, however, denies that he was racing.
The race, which extended between Tokyo’s Ota Ward and Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, included a total of seven vehicles. One of the cars was involved in a crash that resulted in the death of the driver. The drivers of the other two vehicles are currently under prosecution for the same violation.
