TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a part-time teacher for engaging in illicit encounters with a 16-year-old girl while she was his student, reports TBS News (May 11).

Police have charged Yosuke Iida, a 37-year-old instructor at a private junior high school in Kanagawa Prefecture, with violating the Child Welfare Act after he allegedly committed indecent acts with the girl while knowing that she was under the age of 18.

“I did it because she was cute,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Ogikubo Police Station in admitting to the allegations, according to Fuji News Network (May 12). “We were dating as lovers.”

Over a six-month period through August of last year, the pair met in secret on dozens of occasions, including in June of last year at a hotel in Shibuya Ward. The suspect also visited the residence of the girl.

According to police, the suspect lured the girl by describing the encounters as “special instruction” sessions.

The girl is a high school student. Until March, the suspect taught math at the girl’s school, according to NHK (May 12).

The matter came to light after the girl consulted with a former teacher.
