TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched a manslaughter investigation following the death of a 53-year-old Korean male who was found collapsed last week on a street in Toshima Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 7).

On the night of May 3, a passerby found Kang Chun-soo, a resident of Itabashi Ward, lying on a street near JR Ikebukuro Station with blood coming from his nose. The back of his skull was also fractured.

Kang was rushed to a nearby hospital but he died on Friday morning.

According to police, Kang had been out drinking with an acquaintance at a restaurant just prior to the incident. His bicycle was discovered near his body.

Police suspect that Kang was assaulted as he rode home from the restaurant.

Police are now examining security camera footage for clues as to the assailant.
