OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested an employee of the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper for taking illicit images of a woman in a park, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 6).

At 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a 51-year-old reporter in an editorial division of the head office in Osaka, allegedly used a smartphone to photograph inside the skirt of a woman, aged in her 20s, at a park in Nishi Ward.

The suspect, who has been charged with causing a public nuisance, admits the allegations. “I get excited taking photographs of women’s underwear,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Nishi Police Station. He was released from custody on Thursday.

During the taking of the photographs, and acquaintance of the victim saw the suspect committing the crime. The employee then fled the scene but was later apprehended by a male passerby.

A check of the suspect’s phone revealed several photographs of the woman in the park. There were also other images showing the underwear of other women.

“We are examining all the facts of the case, and will deal with this matter very strictly,” a representative of the Mainichi is quoted.
