CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police are questioning a man in connection with the brutal stabbing death of a 41-year-old woman in Chiba City earlier this month, reports Fuji News Network (April 28).

Police said that the man, aged in his 20s, has hinted at involvement in the murder of Rina Kayano, a contract employee, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds lying atop a futon in her residence by her father on the evening of April 4.

Officers arriving at the apartment confirmed her dead at the scene. Police later determined that the perpetrator possessed a clear intent to kill, saying that she was repeatedly stabbed her in the abdomen.

Money was found inside Kayano’s purse, and no valuables were taken from the apartment, police said.

The man in custody, who lives near Kayano’s apartment, was previously arrested for another crime. During questioning, the Kayano case surfaced.

Police expect to arrest the man for the killing of Kayano sometime on Thursday.

Update: Police have arrested Ryohei Fuinaga, 29, on charges of murder, reports TBS News (April 29).
