TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have arrested a 33-year-old man after a pre-dawn stabbing incident at a convenience store in Utsunomiya City on Monday left three people hurt, reports NHK (April 25).

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Takuya Kawanago allegedly used a knife to stab a 56-year-old male truck driver in the back and slash two women, aged 54 and 22, on their arms in a parking lot for an outlet of 7-Eleven located in the Shimokawamata area.

The male victim, who is also a truck driver, received injuries that will require one week to heal. The women, who are mother and daughter, sustained minor injuries to their arms and fingers.

Kawanakago was apprehended by the male victim. Police arriving at the scene arrested him for attempted murder. “I was drunk and don’t remember a thing,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Police are now seeking a motive for the crime.
