KYOTO (TR) – In Kyoto last week, the old saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” could not have been more true.

Kyoto Prefectural Police are now seeking the owner of more than 20 million yen in cash that was found at an industrial waste processing facility in Kyoto, reports the Sankei Shimbun (April 19).

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on April 13, a worker at the facility, located in Minami Ward, discovered a large number of 10,000-yen notes in some refuse. By the following day, a total of 23 million yen in cash had been found.

The facility, which typically handles material from demolished homes, shrubbery and concrete, serves the city of Kyoto and the southern part of the prefecture.

On the day of the discovery, a number of especially large items that had been brought in over several days were being processed.

Persons with information on the cash are advised to call the Minami Police Station at 075-682-0110.
