KAGAWA (TR) – Kagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 23-year-old American basketball player for the possession of marijuana in Takamatsu City, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (April 13).

Working off a tip, police on Wednesday morning searched the apartment of Nino Johnson, a power forward for the Takamatsu Five Arrows of the BJ League, and discovered an amount of marijuana.

Johnson, who has been charged with violating the Cannabis Control Law, denies the charges, telling police he knows nothing about the matter.

The native of Tennessee joined the Five Arrows in September of last year. He is currently ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game.

Fumihiro Hoshijima, the president of the Five Arrows, apologized to the team’s fans and other concerned parties for the incident. “With his denial, we will monitor any changes that may develop in the investigation,” he is quoted.
