HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a corpse beneath a home under demolition in Kobe, reports Nippon News Network (April 4).

At around noon on Saturday, a 60-year-old member of a construction crew discovered a human skull under the floorboards of the home, located in the Sumauradori area Suma Ward. After police arrived at the scene, other human bones were also found.

The wood structure was unoccupied at the time of the discovery.

According to neighbors, the residence had most recently been occupied by an elderly woman and her son. It has been vacant for approximately 10 years.

Police are now seeking to identify the body, but it is believed to be that of the woman. The cause of death will be sought via an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.
