Tokyo police: Woman dies, boy survives in plunge from 8th floor of building

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating an incident in which a woman plunged to her death in a fall from the eighth floor of a building while holding her three-year-old son, who survived, reports TBS News (Mar. 28).

At approximately 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, a passerby of an apartment building in Arakawa Ward notified police of a collapsed woman outside the premises.

According to police, the woman, 32, sustained severe injuries over her entire body due to the impact with the ground. After being transported to a nearby hospital, she was confirmed dead.

The boy sustained serious injuries but was found to be breathing. He is currently in critical condition.

Police are treating the incident as a murder-suicide case in which the woman picked up her three-year-old son and jumped from her apartment’s balcony.

A will has not been found.

The woman is believed to have jumped while her husband was busy cooking. Police are now seeking a motive for the crime.
