SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of an elderly woman’s corpse in Shizuoka City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Mar. 22).

At 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers from the Chuo Police Station found the body of Fukuko Noda, 77, lying face-up on a bed of her residence, located in the Mikawacho area of Aoi Ward. Her face had received several stab wounds.

At the time of the discovery, the front door was locked.

Since newspapers had accumulated at the residence for roughly 10 days, neighbors contacted the city office. A member of the office accompanied officers at the time of the grisly discovery, according to Nippon News Network (Mar. 22).

Noda shares the residence with her 52-year-old son. His whereabouts are unknown.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. They are also seeking the whereabouts of the son.
