EHIME (TR) – Ehime Prefectural Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother inside the residence they share in Imabari City, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 18).

On March 17, police found the body of Chizuko Shiroishi, 80, lying face-up on a futon in the living room of the residence, located in the Kojojicho area. The body was emaciated and had marks consistent with strangulation on the neck.

On Friday, police arrested her son, Naoki Fujiwara, on charges of murder. “After she went to sleep on the futon, I strangled her with both hands,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Fujiwara called police from a public telephone to report the crime on the day the body was found. Police suspect that he killed his mother the day before.

Police are now seeking a motive for the crime.
