CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 67-year-old man in the death of his older sister in Sakura City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 16).

On March 5, Toru Onodera allegedly assaulted his sister, 71-year-old Hiroko, by stomping on her abdomen and chest inside the residence they share in the Kamishizu area.

After he telephoned emergency services on Monday, she was later transported to a nearby hospital and confirmed dead. Her body had rib fractures to the left side that appeared to be the result of a beating.

Onodera, who has been charged with manslaughter, admits to the allegations. “Our relationship was more poor than usual,” the suspect is quoted by police.

When Onodera telephoned emergency services he said that Hiroko had not been moving for the past few days. Firefighters responding to the call found his sister lying face-up in her room.

Police are now seeking to determine the cause of death for Hiroko.
