AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a 73-year-old woman in Gamagori City, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 11).

At approximately 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Tsukasa Sugiura, 53, alerted police after discovering the body of his mother, Kazuyo, collapsed face-up on a tatami mat in a first-floor room of the home they share in the Kaminogocho area.

A mobile telephone charging cable was wrapped around her neck, and blood was flowing from one ear. Based on bloodstains left on the floor, it appears the body had been dragged. Police also found blood on a shoji paper partition and that a pane of glass had been shattered in the living room, according to Jiji Press (Mar. 11).

Tsukasa’s wife also lives in the residence, which includes a separate building for Kazuyo. On Wednesday morning, she saw Kazuyo at the residence just before leaving.

Upon his arrival home from a trip to China on Thursday, Tsukasa found the entrance door to Kazuyo’s building locked. After climbing into the premises via a bathroom window, he made the grisly discovery, according to the Mainichi Shimbun (Mar. 11).

Aichi police have established a special unit and mobilized approximately 60 staff members as a part of the investigation.
