TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have busted a large illegal gambling ring that utilized various locations in the Kanto area, including residences in Minato Ward, reports NHK (Mar. 7).

On Saturday, police arrested manager Yoshinori Minami, 49, and 10 employees for allowing customers to place wagers on baccarat inside a casino located in a multi-tenant building in Yokohama’s Naka Ward.

Five male and female customers inside the premises at the time of the raid were also arrested.

To evade a bust, the location of the casino moved regularly. It was often housed inside high-end apartment complexes, including a residence in Roppongi Hills in Minato Ward, according to TV Asahi (Mar. 7). For the Yokohama location, the entrance door was composed of one ton of iron.

According to an accounting book seized by police, the ring collected approximately 450 million yen over a three-month period.

The ring was exposed in December, after a 54-year-old woman lodged a complaint with police about “a friend who lost 20 million yen” wagering when the casino was located in Tokyo’s Akasaka district.
