NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have arrested a 68-year-old woman for allegedly abandoning the body of her mother in the residence they share in Kashiba City, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 6).

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the younger brother of Yukimi Yamamura found the body of their 90-year-old mother, Chiyoko, lying in a first-floor hallway of the residence, located in the Hirano area.

On February 26, Yamamura contacted the brother to inform him that she intended to call an ambulance for their mother who had fallen unconscious. However, she did not make the call.

Yamamura has been charged with abandoning a corpse. “Since I don’t know what would be the best thing to do, I didn’t do anything,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The body exhibited no external wounds. Police are now attempting to determine the cause of death.
