Shizuoka cops: Man kills father in stabbing in Gotenba

SHIZUOKA (TR) – Following a stabbing incident early Wednesday that resulted in the death of his father, Shizuoka Prefectural Police arrested a 33-year-old male factory worker in Gotenba City, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 2).

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Kazutaka Sasaki allegedly used a kitchen knife to repeatedly stab both of his parents as they slept in a first-floor bedroom.

The suspect’s father, Etsuo, 65, was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, Ren, his 59-year-old mother, suffered serious wounds to her abdomen.

The suspect fled the scene after the crime. His mother then telephoned police. About 20 minutes later, he was apprehended near JR Fujioka Station.

Sasaki, who has been charged with attempted murder, admitted to the allegations up on his arrest.

Police expect to change the charges to murder.
