Tokyo cops: Coast guard staffer jumped from ministry building in suicide

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a male member of the Japan Coast Coast outside a government building in Chiyoda Ward, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Feb. 23).

At 1:35 p.m. on Monday, a passerby notified police after finding the body of the man, 40, at the base of the building housing the offices of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, located in the Kasumigaseki area. The case is being treated as a suicide.

Officers from the Kojimachi Police Station confirmed the man dead at the scene. A will has not been found.

Police believe the man entered the offices of the Ministry and jumped to his death from the 11-floor building.
