TOKYO (TR) – As a part of an ongoing investigation into abuse at a nursery, Tokyo Metropolitan Police have re-arrested a female employee for forcing a child to eat the spicy condiment wasabi, reports TV Asahi (Feb. 18).

On September 22, Manami Nanmoku, a 28-year-old teacher at Haiku Room Kids Style Akabane-en, located in Kita Ward, forced a 4-year-old boy to eat fried chicken topped with the grated horseradish-like root.

Nanmoku, who has been charged with assault, admits to the allegations. “Since he doesn’t listen, I forced him to eat the food,” the suspect is quoted by police. “It was done half in fun.”

Last month, police first arrested Nanmoku for allegedly binding the hands of a 6-year-old boy and removing adhesive tape that she had put over his mouth and eyes.

Confiscation of her smartphone by police revealed a video showing her committing the alleged crime involving the chicken and wasabi. The videoshows the suspect threatening to hit the boy, shown to be crying, if he spit out the chicken, according to Nippon News Network (Feb. 18).

Nanmoku has been employed at the nursery since it opened in July of 2012.
