Tokyo police bust 2-chome gay bar for licensing violations

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have busted of a bar in the 2-chome gay quarter of Shinjuku Ward for licensing violations, reports TV Asahi (Feb. 10) .

Early on Tuesday morning, officers from the Yotsuya Police Station, took Akira Ohashi, the 26-year-old manager of Bar 9 Monsters, into custody for providing customers with entertainment without a proper license under the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.

Ohashi denies the allegations, telling police that his employees did not provide entertainment.

Police said that since Bar 9 Monsters offers discounted prices to gay customers problems over money have erupted in the establishment.

According to TBS News (Feb. 10), Bar 9 Monsters has served approximately 2,400 customers and collected more than 60 million yen in sales over the past three years.

The 2-chome area includes approximately 450 bars and restaurants catering to primarily gay clientele.
