IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in the killing of his girlfriend in Tsukuba City, reports the Nikkei Shimbun (Feb. 4).

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Hideaki Tanno, a company employee, allegedly stabbed Miho Komatsu, 28, to death with a kitchen knife inside her third-floor apartment, located in the Azuma area.

Tanno, who has been charged with murder, denies the charges, telling officers from the Chuo Police Station that he stabbed Komatsu but did not intend to kill her.

At around 10:30 p.m., the couple returned to her apartment after a meal at a restaurant. They then engaged in a fight that ended with the stabbing.

Police arriving at the scene after receiving a emergency call from a neighbor found Komatsu’s body near the entrance with the 12-inch-long knife sticking out from her chest, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 3).

The suspect and victim had been dating since April of last year.
