Fisherman finds corpse in Lake Biwa

SHIGA (TR) – Shiga Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse in the waters of Lake Biwa in Nagahama City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 28).

At 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, a fisherman using a canoe found the body submerged beneath the surface and about 10 meters off shore of the town of Shimosakahama.

The person is believed to be in his 50s or 60s. The body was attired in a black sweater and black slacks and shoes. It did not exhibit any signs of external injuries.

Investigators from the Nagahama Police Station are now working to quickly identify the body and determine the cause of death.
