TOKYO (TR) – A male custodial employee at a multi-purpose hall in Meguro Ward has died after an accident involving a trash compacting machine, reports TV Asahi (Jan. 10).

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Friday, emergency services received a call about a man, aged in his 60s, who had become trapped between the compaction machine and a holding container at Meguro Gajoen.

The victim was pulled from the machine by police and fire personnel about two hours later. After being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was confirmed dead.

The man had been feeding garbage into the machine for compaction prior to the accident. A security guard found the man after he noticed disposal work had not been concluded.

Police are now investigating the cause of the accident.

Meguro Gajoen, which was constructed in 1935, offers hotel and banquet facilities. It is a popular location for wedding parties.
