Young woman plunges to death from roof of Osaka department store

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to have been a suicide after a young woman fell to her death from the roof of a department store on Friday, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Jan. 8).

At approximately 11:40 a.m., emergency services received a phone call from a passersby outside the Shinsaibashi branch of the Daimaru department store about the woman who had fallen onto the adjacent shopping arcade. The woman was confirmed dead at the scene.

Items found at the scene pointed to her being a high school student in Osaka.

A review of security camera footage by police showed the woman plunging to her death from the roof. A bag was found at the approximate location of where she began her fall. A note inside the bag mentioned a bout with an illness, according to the Mainichi Shimbun (Jan. 8).

Police are now trying to confirm the identity of the girl.
