TOYAMA (TR) – Toyama Prefectural Police have arrested a male tax employee for stealing women’s underwear from a laundromat in Tonami City, reports the Nippon News Network (Jan. 8).

On January 5 at approximately 7:45 a.m., Shigeru Yokawa, a 62-year-old employee at the Kanazawa Regional Taxation Bureau, is alleged to have stolen two pairs of women’s underwear from a coin-operated washing machine.

Yokawa, who has been charged with theft, denies the allegations, according to officers from the Himi Police Station.

Yokawa was apprehended after a review of surveillance camera footage showed the suspect, while attired in a skirt and high heels, taking the garments. Police later searched his apartment and found the items.

Police had been investigating a number similar crimes that have taken place recently in Himi and Takaoka cities.
