OKAYAMA (TR) – Okayama Prefectural Police have arrested a staff member with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for assaulting a hostess and customers at a club on the morning of New Year’s Day, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 1).

At 12:15 a.m., Ryota Ito, 31, is alleged to have repeatedly struck the head of the 41-year-old female manager of a “snack” hostess club in Okayama City’s Kita Ward. He also hit two male customers, aged 54 and 48, in the face.

None of the three victims suffered an injury.

Ito, who is employed in METI’s Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, denies the charges.

The suspect was drunk at the time of the altercation. He had arrived at the club by himself. The incident occurred after the manager warned him about arguing with other customers.
