OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman for allegedly cutting up a corpse and scattering the pieces in her residence in Kadoma City, reports NHK (Dec. 29).

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, police searched the apartment of Terumi Morishima, an illustrator, and found a skull and other body parts inside the bathroom and a freezer.

Police believe the remains are those of a 25-year-old female part-time worker, who had been declared missing.

Morishima, who has been charged with destruction and abandoning a corpse, declined to comment on the charges. “There is a skull is in my room, but I don’t have anything to say about it,” the suspect was quoted by police, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 29).

Morishima is an acquaintance of the 25-year-old woman. On Friday, the father of the woman told police that he had been unable to reach her daughter since the day before. Police then found that approximately 100,000 yen had been taken from her bank account.

Between August and the end of November, Morishima lived with the woman at a shared-living facility located about 300 meters away from the apartment. The facility operates such that kitchen and bathing facilities are shared by the residents. The rent is approximately 30,000 yen per month.

Police believe that the body had been cut into pieces several days ago. Police are now working to confirm the identity of the remains.
