HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 50-year-old organized crime member for killing a bar hostess by pushing her from a building in Kakogawa City last month, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Oct. 5).

At 2:45 a.m. on September 22, Ryuji Omichi, a member of the Yamaken-gumi, is alleged to have pushed Mai Tsukamoto from the fifth floor of a commercial building in the Hiraokacho area. Tsukamoto, who fell 15 meters to the ground, suffered extensive injuries. She died due to loss of blood, police said.

Omichi, who has been charged with murder, denies the charges.

Tsukamoto is the manager of a “snack” hostess club on the fifth floor of the same building. Just prior to the incident, an employee of the bar observed the suspect and victim arguing near an elevator, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 5).

On September 29, police issued a warrant for the arrest of Omichi. On Monday, he turned himself in to officers at the Kakogawa Police Station.

The Yamaken-gumi is the largest affiliate organization of the newly formed Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi.

On September 1, the Kobe-based Yamaguchi-gumi chose to break up by excommunicating 13 affiliate gangs. The Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi formed four days after the dissolution.
