HIROSHIMA (TR) – Hiroshima Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a 66-year-old man inside his residence in Hiroshima City’s Nishi Ward, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 8).

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, an acquaintance of Akira Fujimoto was found collapsed near the bed inside the fourth-floor residence by a male acquaintance. His head was covered by a bag.

Though an autopsy has not yet been conducted to determine the cause of death, the victim appears to have died after being repeatedly beaten in the head with a blunt object, likely the blood-stained ashtray found near the victim’s body.

Fujimoto’s wallet and mobile phone were not found at the scene of the crime.

Police are now speaking with the victim’s associates as a part of the investigation.
