FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police on Thursday re-arrested a 50-year-old male for the murder of a woman whose body was found dumped in a park in Nagasaki, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Aug. 27).

Police charged Yuji Futaba, a resident of Tagawa City, with killing Yumi Nakamura, a 41-year-old resident of Oita Prefecture. Futaba has refused to comment on the charges.

According to witnesses, Futaba repeatedly beat Nakamura over the head and ignited a flammable spray with a lighter to burn her body over a two-month period beginning in the middle of March. She died on May 22 inside a hotel in Fukuoka’s Higashi Ward.

The results of an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be respiratory failure brought about by pneumonia and an acute subdural hematoma.

After Nakamura’s death, her body was moved to a parking lot of an abandoned hotel in Tagawa where it remained for about a day and half. Futaba and his acquaintance, Toyoki Otori, 30, then transported the body by car to a park in Nagasaki. On the morning of May 24, a male passerby noticed Nakamura’s body wrapped in a blanket.

Police subsequently arrested Otori and Futaba on charges of abandoning a corpse. Both men were found on guilty on that charge on August 25.
