KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police on Tuesday arrested a 47-year-old male after he allegedly used a zoom lens attached to a camera to shoot obscene images of women in Nakagyo Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 11).

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Monday, the suspect, a company employee from Aichi Prefecture, allegedly photographed up the skirt of a 24-year-old woman in the riverbed of the Kamo River.

The suspect, who has been charged with violating a public nuisance ordinance, admits to the allegations. “I came to take tosatsu photos,” the suspect is quoted by police in referring to peeping images.

At the time of the incident, an event was taking place in the riverbed that provided illumination. The suspect used a 70-300mm lens in order to focus inside the skirts of women from a distance of between 5 and 6 meters.

After the suspect was observed acting suspiciously by one of the victims, she called out to him. A search of his camera later revealed approximately 100 images showing women squatting.
