Mie man arrested in murder of woman at love hotel

MIE (TR) – Mie Prefectural Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of 23-year-old male for the murder of a woman who died after being found unconscious at a love hotel in Suzuka City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 12).

Police took Yuhei Furutani, a resident of Tsu City, into custody for beating So I, a 37-year-old Chinese national, to death inside a room at the Ohirune Racco Suzuka hotel, on Sunday afternoon. The suspect also stole her shoulder bag.

Furutani, who has been charged with murder and theft, admits to the allegations. “I sold the bag at a used-goods store in Miyagi Prefecture,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Furutani met the victim at on a deai-kei dating site. At approximately 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, cleaning personnel at the hotel discovered a fully nude So collapsed and bleeding from her head inside a room’s bathroom. She died after being transported to a nearby hospital by emergency personnel.

Security camera footage obtained from the hotel showed a vehicle registered to the grandfather of the suspect exiting the hotel’s parking lot. On Tuesday at 5:40 a.m., that vehicle was spotted at a parking area in Miyagi, where he was arrested for driving without a license.
