TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the arrest of a leader of a crime group for allegedly inflicting injuries upon a rival member with a sword, reports TV Asahi (July 13).

On the morning of May 13, Hiroshi Ono, a 46-year-old head of a faction within bosozoku motorcycle group Dragon, is alleged to have used a Chinese sword to slash the face of another leader, 31, inside a club in the Kabukicho red-light district of Shinjuku Ward. The victim’s wounds required two weeks to heal.

Ono has reportedly denied the allegations.

According to the Sankei Shimbun (July 13), Ono heads a 50-member faction of Dragon based in Akabane while the victim leads a division based in Ueno with approximately 100 members.

Police are now investigating whether problems within the gang lead to the attack.

In 2013, the National Police Agency began classifying bosozoku gangs as “pseudo-yakuza” groups to better reflect the true state of their activities.

Dragon is comprised of second- and third-generation returnees from China who came to Japan after the end of World War II.
