SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police on Saturday arrested a noted doctor at the Shizuoka Cancer Center for allegedly assaulting and extorting a male acquaintance of his wife, reports TBS News (June 13).

Early Saturday morning, Kei Iida, a 47-year-old head of an internal medicine division at the center, is alleged to have kicked the man, 40, in the back and thrust a knife before him inside a parking lot in Mishima City. He also demanded a payment of 500,000 yen.

According to police Iida, who joined the center in 2004, has admitted to the allegations, telling police that he thought the man was meeting his wife as a part of an extra-marital affair, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (June 13).

“We are in the middle of collecting all the facts in the case,” a representative of the cancer center said.
