On May 7, Ibaraki Prefectural Police arrested Tsuyoshi Kuwana, a 38-year-old male from Gunma Prefecture, on charges of human trafficking for using a 14-year-old girl as an actress in an adult video (AV) production.

But, as weekly tabloid Friday (May 29) reports, the incident forms a mere footnote within an unbelievable case of abuse.

On February 21, the suspect is alleged to have paid 150,000 yen to “delivery health” business Legend for the services of the girl, a middle school student, for filming illicit acts inside a hotel room in Tsuchiura City.

The shoot lasted until the following morning.

“He has a lolicon fetish,” an investigator tells the magazine in referring to a man attracted to very young girls. “A search of his home revealed about 100 DVDs featuring him having sex with underage girls. His way of speaking is a bit strange, but it is clear he is not an amateur photographer; he had two professional cameras set up for the shoots.”

Police were lead to Kuwana after launching a separate investigation.

In March, police arrested the manager of Legend, 25-year-old Kentaro Abe, on charges on charges of prostitution for allegedly providing customers to the same girl on approximately 500 occasions. In this latest case, Abe also faces human trafficking charges.

Legend advertised the girl’s services on deai-kei matchmaking sites at rates that ranged between 10,000 and 40,000 yen per session.

The girl lived at the shop’s office, which was inside a rundown pink and blue building. Abe drove her to waiting customers in a white van.

As as far as compensation, she received between 2,000 and 3,000 yen. (In the case involving Kuwana, he paid her 20,000 yen.) Sales attributed to her averaged 1.8 million yen per month.

“Managers of such shops target young girls because they are cheap and willing to offer full sex,” an insider in the delivery health industry tells the magazine. “Honest girls” — as in, those who stick the letter of the law by offering only blow-jobs — “are disagreeable to work with.”

For Kuwana, he is a native of Saitama Prefecture and employed at a company in the automobile industry. He reportedly started buying young girls about five years ago, right around the time of the death of his mother.

Friday tracked down Kuwana’s father, who still lives in Saitama. He said his wife’s death could not be a factor in his son’s behavior.

“In considering the reason, I am just baffled as to why he did it,” he says to the magazine. “He seemed to be doing well at work, but it wasn’t my place to persistently inquire about his private life.” (A.T.)

  1. The prevalence of young teenagers in these stories is abhorrent. It truly saddens me to read these stories, but I know it plays an important role in getting people to talk about those issues. Although the latter is quite rare in Japan from what I’ve experienced.
