TOKYO (TR) – A water leak lead Tokyo Metropolitan Police to an apartment in Nerima Ward that was being used to grow marijuana plants, reports Nippon News Network (April 10).

On Wednesday, officers arrested Kazuhiro Kurihara, a 47-year-old company employee currently on leave, for possession of one kilogram of marijuana (valued at six million yen) with the intent to sell.

Kurihara, who has been charged with violating the Cannabis Control Law, has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “With my future uncertain, I started growing marijuana for money,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The contraband was discovered after a resident in the unit below Kurihara’s apartment complained about water leaking from above. The source of the water was later revealed to be the supply used for the marijuana cultivation.

The suspect began growing the plants in November. He had not yet made any sales.
