TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old male for robbing a customer of a short-term stay establishment in Shinjuku Ward following a dispute last month, reports TBS News (Jan. 16).

On December 6, police allege that Yuta Izawa stole 30,000 yen from a 32-year-old male office worker who had been lured into the premises, located in the Kabukicho red-light district, by a street tout.

The customer had been offered sexual services from a “cute, young girl” for 15,000 yen, according to public broadcaster NHK (Jan. 16). However, a woman around 40 years of age appeared and demanded a cash payment of 50,000 yen. When her refused to comply, Izawa assaulted him and stole the money in cash.

Izawa has reportedly denied the allegations.

Police also arrested sex worker Rie Suzuki, 38, on charges of theft during another occasion inside the same short-term stay establishment.

According to police, more than 200 similar incidents have been reported in Kabukicho over the past year.
