TOKYO (TR) – Massive crowds of worshippers on Friday gathered in the Asakusa district of Taito Ward to wish for good fortune in the New Year.

From the front of the Senso-ji Temple, lines of visitors extended through the Nakamise shopping arcade and back to the Kaminari-mon Gate.

In the surrounding areas, vendors sold grilled meat and souvenirs from street stalls. Revelers also jammed bars and restaurants around the Rokku district, which includes the Hanayashiki amusement park.
