HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police on Wednesday arrested an employee of public broadcaster NHK for robbing a teenage girl in a hotel in Asahikawa City three months ago, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Dec. 3).

On the afternoon of September 30, Akihiro Kosugi, a 27-year-old member of the engineering section of broadcaster, is alleged to have stolen 33,000 yen in cash from the purse of a 17-year-old girl while she took a shower in a love hotel in the Nagayama area.

According to officers from the Higashi Police Station in Asahikawa, the suspect met the girl through a deai-kei “encounter” matchmaking site on the same day.

After the theft, Kosugi paid the hotel fee and fled the scene, leaving the girl behind.

“Is truly regrettable that a staff member has been arrested,” said a representative of NHK. “The matter will be dealt with in a strict manner once the facts are examined.”
