Halloween in Roppongi

TOKYO (TR) – Japan had not been known for embracing Halloween like Western countries, but over the past decade that has changed significantly.

Nowadays, many department stores, small shops, bars and restaurants across the nation are adorned in orange throughout October. Then, on the night of the 31st, celebrants dressed as everything from police officers to anime characters clog the streets of major entertainment areas, especially in Tokyo.

The trick-or-treating aspect, however, has not caught on. One woman living in a city in the countryside details on a bulletin board on Yahoo! Japan her experience last year of being asked to drive to the nearest store by children arriving at her home when they learned she had no candy.

For this year, Tokyo’s Roppongi district proved to be very lively, as the photo gallery below reveals.
